I've been working on a drone project with some friends and we decided to use aluminum as a chassis for the drone. Since welding isn't an option for us (nor aluminum), we decided to braze the aluminum pieces together. We are having trouble brazing the aluminum pieces together properly as the bond between the two aluminum pieces is weak.My questions are:Is there something wrong that we are doing?Do we just need to practice more?Is aluminum not the right job for what we are trying to accomplish? Are there any errors/issues that could cause the brazed bond to be weak?Materials and ResultsThe steps we take are as follows: First we cut the angle down the aluminum angle bar and peeled back the flaps to lay flush on the c-channel (more surface area means more contact area). Then we scrub the aluminum bars vigorously with the stainless steel brush and clamp them down with the vise and C-clamp in a position suitable for brazing. We then heat up the aluminum metal with the bernzomatic to a high enough temperature where the brazing rods melt onto the surface on contact.EDIT: formatting via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2rJ6qdP
