I thought I was buying a window AC unit, but accidentally bought a through-the-wall AC unit. I bought it used on craigslist, so I can't return it. I am thinking of making it work, but wanted to post here to see if what I'm thinking is a terrible idea or not.I placed the unit in the window to see how it sits. http://ift.tt/2sX1h19 It was surprisingly stable, and won't fall over on it's own. The unit is 19" deep. 7" stick out the back, 7.5" sit on the sill, and 4.5" are inside the house. I was going to make a shelf that would screw into the outside of the house and the unit would sit on it so that it wouldn't tip and fall outside. I wasn't planning on securing the unit to anything, just having it sit flat. I would then cut a sheet of plywood to fill in the gap above the unit. Here is a rough outline of what I'm thinking. http://ift.tt/2rX90wT seems like it will work fine to me, but I'm interested in what others have to say. Thanks. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2t1nqvA
