So I'll try to be brief: wife is a beauty therapist, currently in a permanent position in a hotel's SPA. She went for an interview at this place that just opened in our town, which is part of a Worldwide chain of Laser hair removal centres that also has other centres in the Uk. They would offer an hourly rate £3 higher than most other jobs of this type. They immediately offered her the position and asked about when she could hand in her notice and start there.

so far sounded like a dream deal.

then the shady bit happened. Basically, my wife got her Beauty therapist qualification in Italy, got the thing officially compared to UK level though a specialised agency, and got (unexpectedly) a lower level. She is currently in a dispute with this agency over this.

So at this point, the people from the Salon at first told her her job offer was conditional to this certificate, telling her how much they wanted her in their team and what not (after only a half hour interview??) then started helping her out to get the process finished as quickly as possible. Bare in mind, this place is up and running, people are working there, and it's inside a big shopping mall, so it's hard to believe this could be shady. And there's nothing about scams relative to these salons, only good reviews from various parts of the globe.

So a few days go by, whilst waiting for this agency to get back to us with the re-assessment, then the boss from the head office in Madrid call her and tells her that if the agency could not rectify the error in the certificate, they could do it for 1800£. Now this is shady big time. She said she wants everything written on paper before she leaves her current job, but the guy said the notice must come first.

she's going again tomorrow to the salon to speak with the manager....

any advice on how to move forward??

tl;dr - wife's been offered a dream job, but her italian qualification is not recognised as same level as UK so in theory she could not work in this newly opend shiny salon; the big boss offered her to sort this out for a fee of £1800 to an external legal team. she's going back in tomorrow for a contract talk...
