When I got to my Mom's today she told me she had an odd email from paypal saying that her account had been accessed from an unrecognized device in Indonesia. At first the knee jerk reaction was to go to paypal and log in to change the password. I started to try and pick the email apart an noticed some glaring red flags that were clear when you read it.

The Logo although PayPal's actual logo, was missing the Double P that starts the emblem. The second sign was that the English was almost well written, but I caught an error when they said accessed in Indonesian, not Indonesia. People who don't have good English skills will make little mistakes like that when it comes to context. Biggest glaring this is a scam sign, the email came in at 1:54Am, but said the account was accessed at 2:34Am, almost an hour after I'd received the email.

When I hovered over the email address in outlook, it unmasked the service@paypal.com and showed the very East Indian sounding email address. I think the goal here was to get me to follow a link to get log-in info. At a first glance it was very convincing. Always take time to pick these types of emails apart. They are counting on you making a knee jerk reaction. If you feel you need to log into something, never use the email link, punch it in to your address bar and go in the normal way. Be careful Everybody.
