On Monday, I helped my boyfriend move into his new apartment. We got the keys at 9 AM, and went straight to the apartment with a car full of stuff, namely my suitcase and a hamper full of clothes. We unloaded the car, and then left to go get some of the heavier things from my apartment, which is about a 10 minute drive from his new place. When we got back, there were two cleaning ladies from the rental company in the apartment. We unloaded the truck onto the back porch so that they could clean, and left again to get another load of things. When we returned, the cleaning ladies had finished and were about to leave. We spoke briefly and they left.

Around 1:30 on Monday, I noticed that my suitcase and hamper were missing. We called the rental company and they spoke with the cleaners, who said that they put all of my things on the side of the road next to the trash cans. We recovered the hamper, which they'd placed in a trash bag, but the suitcase was nowhere to be found. I've filed a police report, but since it was on the side of the road, the police officer said there isn't much they can do.

The rental company has stated that they will "get back to me" sometime today. My question is, what should/can I do? The suitcase was packed with 3 months worth of clothes, toiletries, shoes, and other items as I'm leaving the country for the summer later this month. There was, at minimum, $500 worth of things in the suitcase, which I don't have the money to replace as the internship I'm leaving for is unpaid. Any advise would be incredibly appreciated.
