Hello. University Student here.
I was wondering how important is it to have a social media account? Some have told me that this is the only way that people can get in touch with me and that is an important tool...
Just yesterday, a classmate gave me a strange look when I said that I don't have FB... When I stated that they can contact me in another way... They sheepishly asked for my email... ( I guess emailing is not common now?)
Background Info:
-
FB: I used to have FB, and got addicted to playing Farmville and whatnot. After my first year of college(cegep), I just deactivated my FB. Consequently, it made me feel better because I don't have to feel the need to keep up with all those "fun times" that people seem to be having...
-
Tumblr: Used to use it as much as FB, until I realise what was drawing me to the site was the number game of having most likes/reblogs/followers...
-
LinkedIn: This website makes me feel worst than having a FB... I feel as if I have nothing to show in terms of achievement for in comparison to everyone else... Everyone else seem to be getting a promotion, job, internship and makes me feel anxious about the future... [This is 'tool' that is supposedly the most important of them all]
-
Instagram: Never had one. But, looking at all those beautiful photos, reminds me of FB once again...
Not sure what to do... A lot of the social media, seem to negatively affect me. But, sometimes, it just draws me back despite making me feel insecure...
The worst would be when I stopped using FB/Tumblr... I just felt lost. I didn't know who I was, the distraction just seems to be gone. FB, Tumblr... They seem to have distracted me for so long... I got this feeling. It's this weird feeling of emptiness. And, I am still dealing with it.
Replies are greatly appreciated.
Thank you for reading this.
