I read the sidebar and although I don't think I'm breaking a rule by posting this here, I apologize in advance if its the wrong place.
This last week I severely broke my leg, ankle, and foot in a total of four places. (Fibula in two places, talus in one, and one in my foot). It is a serious injury and I will require surgery and be out of work for a minimum of 6 months. For most of that time, I am hardly able to walk even with crutches.
I had started a new job that I loved two months ago, but the medical insurance did not start until 90 days. The injury happened due to a freak accident unrelated to work, and nobody was involved that I could sue. Even if i had the insurance, I cant work to pay for it. I can live off of savings for maybe 2 months.
My question is this: Does anyone know if there are any assistance programs that would be worth looking into? All i have found is emergency food stamps, and plan to apply but wanted to ask reddit first. I live in Tennessee. I have never had to ask for help like this, ever. I've worked since I was 15, am now 30 and am scared out of my mind. I am lucky enough to have some family around and have moved into their home for the duration of my healing process.
(tl,dr) Bad accident at home resulted in severely broken leg. I am freaking out afraid, because now I am uninsured, crippled for at least 6 months, and dont know my options for state assistance to survive during this time (Tennessee). Can anyone point me in a good general direction or has anyone had similar experience?
Thank you, reddit, for your time, and I hate to be a bother to you if I am posting in the wrong place.
