Hello all,

I just got back from the DMV in Nevada without renewing my registration. Nevada has this awesome law that, essentially states, allows military members stationed in Nevada but hold residency in another state to be exempt from paying the heavy taxes on vehicle registrations.

I am from California and my pay stub (LES) states that I pay taxes to CA. I recently got a Nevada drivers license (to make it easier to purchase firearms) and also registered to vote in Nevada. This is where I'm running into trouble. At DMV today, they told me I am no longer exempt because I am a registered voter in this state; which means I am a legal resident even though my pay stub still says California. I told the lady about that and she said nothing can be done. Does anyone here know if she was spitting BS or is this legitimate? I'm trying to avoid paying over $600 in registration right before I deploy.

Edit: I am living in Nevada on military orders. It was not my choice to move here. The law I am referencing can be found here: http://ift.tt/2qcO81V.
