New to Texas. My wife will start doing a lot of work for a number of companies so we're setting up an LLC as a small business. No plans to hire anyone for now.

I was looking at health insurance plans in the private market and I'm seeing prices around $600 p/mo for out family with REALLY high deductibles or around $1000 p/mo with not so high deductibles. I know this is normal.

However, I started getting quotes as a small business to cover 1 employee (my wife and her family) and got a plethora of plans ranging from $250 per month with high deductibles to $600 for really nice low deductible and low out of pocket prices.

Am I seeing this right? Is there something I'm missing? Also, another benefit I'm thinking about is that a private health insurance premium wouldn't be deductible because it's less than 10% of our income. However, if the LLC buys the insurance as an employee benefit, then it can (my wife would be the only employee, she would pay herself a salary).

I can't believe this is correct. I think I'm missing something.

Any thoughts?
