I am 18 and have the lucky advantage of going to college in the same city live in. That means I don't have to spend money on college housing or campus residence. Due to some personal issues I have with my family, it is best if we don't interact too often or I am not in their presence. That leaves me in my small little cold bedroom most of the time only going upstairs to make food.

It is spring time where I live now, but still pretty cold down here in my basement, and once the AC turns on in the summer it will be like living inside an ice cube. Winter is worse. I was seriously wearing a gloves as my cold hands typed and made notes and a scarf to prevent breathing in too much cold air with layers of clothing, socks, and a jacket.

I'm concerned with the safety of space heaters so I barely use mine. We rent too so I cannot make any major house renovations. I was wondering if there are any other ways I could warm up my space. Insulating my windows? Maybe getting a tent or canopy for my bed because I find being under a blanket helps (until I can't breathe of course). More carpeting? Also my feet! My feet get super cold even when wear fuzzy sock or double layer socks. Maybe wool sock would work better? Then my hands for typing.

Also possible lighting or room decor to make my room have a "happier and warm" look to it. I find I am sadder in the winter due to less hours of sunlight and being cooped up in a dark basement doesn't help much either.

I'm not sure if this may also account for the heating differences between the basement and upper level of my house, but the stairway to my basement is an open entrance with no door. Could using a a thick curtain help heat from escaping?
