Two years ago I started an IT job making ~$55k, I put most of it into my 401k, as well as maxing out my Roth IRA. The plan was to achieve FI and go live in a tiny home. A few months into my job I started experiencing weird symptoms, which we now believe to be derealization episodes. I went on a leave of absence, unpaid, and found out I also had a brain tumor. Found out it’s benign. Spent a lot of time and money tracking down the source of my issues: tumor, seizures, etc. Symptoms didn’t get better but I went back to work after 6 months and worked from home.
May 2016 my symptoms got significantly worse, I was unable to work and had to go on leave again. More expensive testing, more unpaid leave. I’m off work for a year, after which I must return or lose employment. Find out they filled my position the same day I find out I have autism and derealization. I have a chance to look for positions within the company for a short time, but I don’t think I’ll be able to find one that will work with my disabilities. I should be starting therapy for the derealization soon, but I will likely only have health insurance for this month. My boyfriend has stated he will marry me so I can get insurance through him.
I don’t know what to do about a job at this point as without a fully silent, stress free environment I forget everything: basic stuff like my name, where I am, what I’m holding. I have $72k in retirement and investment accounts (~25k in brokerage/roth contributions that I could withdrawal), only about $1k cash, and $1k in credit card debt/medical bills. If I dig into brokerage/roth contributions I have enough to live on for a little while while I figure things out, but I do’t know if that’s a good idea, but I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to work, and having a huge gap in employment history wouldn’t help a job search.
I don’t really know where to go from here and was hoping that /r/pf would have some suggestions.
