So the standard frugal car advice is Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. I'm planning to buck that and go for a used Ford Fiesta. The reason is depreciation. I can get a 4 year old used fiesta with 60k miles for less than 5k. A similar vintage Honda or Toyota would be about double that. The main reason is that it the fiesta has a terrible reputation for reliability due to a poorly designed automatic transmission. My solution is to buy one with a manual transmission. From what I can find the rest of the car is pretty reliable and parts are cheap.
What do all you frugal people think? Any problem with my plan?
