I get wifi through Comcast/Xfinity, but I had been looking into Verizon Fios once I moved to my new apartment since their offer online seemed to be cheaper than what I was paying Comcast. Once I went into the store I realized Verizon's intro price was only $5/mo cheaper than Comcast's full price, so I figured I'd try something I read here and called up Comcast.
I explained I was moving and had looked into service with Verizon but wanted to check with them and see if my new address was within Comcast's coverage area. The guy on the phone informed me it was, and didn't you know it, I was eligible for the new customer price "automatically" because I was moving (bullshit, when I moved last I was not offered the new customer price and had been stupidly paying the full price for about a year at this point).
tl;dr it works to suggest you're changing internet providers and you don't even have to phrase it as a threat. I'm now getting my same wifi at $35/mo cheaper.
