I'm attempting to help a friend of mine. As a pastor he chose to exempt himself from Social Security when he was younger. Now he's in his early 50s and is regretting his decision. He has started working at a local community college and is now paying into Social Security but he can only get credit for 4 quarters a year towards qualifying for benefits. I believe you need around 90 quarters to qualify so he's got a long way to go. Is there anything he could do differently to decrease the time needed or get into the program? Any help is appreciated!
