This is going to sound pretty weird or off topic, but what do you do with that much money? I'm 30, single employed full time with insurance, pay into a pension, and working 40+ hours a week I managed in 2016 to have a take home of $27k. There are people who make $27k in a month as department chairs. Having come from a lower middle class family as an only child and two full time employed parents, we made ends meet, but we lived in a tiny house and kept cars 10-15+ years before selling them. I honestly have never had more than $10,000 in savings, normally averaging $5,000, never more than $3,000 in checking, and no other investments other than my work pension, as I find myself occasionally running paycheck to paycheck when overtime is scarce at work. So the idea of making even $50,000 or more a year is completely foreign to me. There are so many things I would love to buy, donate, and do if I had the money to do so, but I have never been able to. So I'm just curious as to what it is like to be able to afford nicer cars, bigger houses, and have money to put away for the future/invest/donate.
This is not meant to be a trolling post. I'm just honestly curious as to how people with the means live. I would love to start a non profit musical group but in order to start one, you need deep pockets or generous donors, and I have neither. I have dreamt for a few years now that once I finally start making good money (or win the lottery) I would start my group. Chances are the lottery is a better bet, because in 8 years of employment at my job, my pay has gone up about $3.50/hour. When compared to the inflation rate, those raises have kept me at, or below, my relative starting wage.
