Long story short, I was contacted by a recruiter a couple weeks ago regarding a specific opportunity. I talked to them, and they put me in contact with the company with the opening. Been interviewing with them, and everything seems to be going well.
If/when it comes time to discuss salary, how should I approach it? Are the recruiters my "friend"? (I've heard they typically get paid a % of my salary, so it's in their interest to maximize that). Or are they working for the company with the opening?
On the recruiter's website, under the "For Candidates" section, it says "As an objective 3rd party, we can educate both sides on fair market value." So they're definitely playing up the angle that I should trust them. My current position is below market value, and I'm concerned that being too honest about my current situation might end up hurting me.
