Saw another post and was inspired to ask for my own advice. Also, sorry for formatting as I am on mobile. Apologies in advance as well for any grammar errors as my native tongue is not English.
So, my housemates and I (5 of us total) generally always buy our own groceries then split it up amongst each other. This has worked out fine with the exception of one housemate. We'll call her Alyona. So everyone buys their own groceries and we all share everything, rather than worrying about what is whose. This generally turns out fine except Alyona has not contributed to the groceries in almost a month.
I came home the other day to her eating a food I was planning on bringing to work with me that day. Generally, I'm not a confrontational person so I just got a little irked by it and then went about my day.
Personally, I'm not feeling that this whole "pooling of food and sharing it all" system is working, as I feel I tend to contribute more than anyone else, and I try to cut back but I generally only go to the grocery store once every two weeks so I try to make it last for my boyfriend and myself.
How can I bring this up lightly and suggest she either start contributing and stop eating everything without helping (I believe this is mooch), or suggest we all buy our own groceries and not do the whole pool system?
Thank you in advance r/frugal!!
