Hope this is the right type of post for this sub!
I regularly look through my closet and find clothes that I don't wear anymore or don't wear often enough to make them worth keeping around, but I feel incredibly guilty when I go to get rid of them. I know being "frugal" doesn't mean hoarding what you have, and I've been doing well about not buying new items that I don't 100% love, but the main block is in getting rid of the items I already have.
The main sources of guilt seem to be:
1) someone gave it to me (relatives, friends, etc) or it has specific memories tied to it,
2) it was a very expensive or very nice quality item, usually that I got for cheap at a thrift store or something (making me feel guilty for "wasting" the item or fear of not being able to replace it as cheaply later), or
3) somehow feeling like it's more frugal to keep the item around in case I need it or want it later rather than get rid of it (grew up wearing mostly secondhand clothes, so I have a hard time letting go of especially more unique items).
I grew up wearing mostly consignment store clothes, so I know I always appreciated finding gems there that other people had gotten rid of, but I can't seem to part with my own unwanted clothes. How do I stop feeling like holding on to clothes I don't like/want/wear is the "frugal" option?
