So I recently accepted a position at a program where I'll work in different state parks. I meet at the headquarters in Austin, where they'll drive us out to a state park for ten days, then we go back to Austin, wait four days, then go to another state park for ten days, that cycle.

My problem is, I'm trying to figure out a housing situation for those four days in between. The program coordinator said it's preferred that we live in Austin, though not required. But since I would only be living in Austin for the equivalent of weekends, I don't want to spend a ton of money on housing. (I won't be getting much money) Tricky, since Austin is expensive, and even if I could find roommates in the program, there aren't many places that will rent out a one bedroom or studio apartment to multiple people. Another issue is that I'm only doing the program for six months, and most places want you on a lease for a year.

Currently I live at my parents' house, a three hour drive away. It would be a hassle, but commuting would save me money. Alternately, do you guys think it would be a stupid idea to stay at cheap motels in or near Austin during the four days? With no more than ten nights a month in Austin, it wouldn't cost more than rent would, (may actually be less, really) plus I wouldn't have to sign a lease or pay deposits or utilities or anything like that. Do you guys have any advice or suggestions for my situation?
