So I've been sitting on some cash for a few months now. A part of me wants to have that cash in hand because I live in New York City and something somehow is bound to happen someday and having zero cash at hand scares the crap out of me.
The thing is that I've also been foolishly sitting on credit card debt that I'm minimally paying off month to month and it goes feels like I'm riding the subway from Brooklyn all the way uptown making every stop. I was getting pummeled with penalty fees monthly and my credit score was taking a beating.
I know I should pay off the debts especially since I'm getting hit with penalties but the way I was brought up kept getting in the way. I woke up on Thursday morning, said fuck it, scooped a gigantic sum from my savings and paid the debt in its entirety. Getting the notification that $xK had been withdrawn from my savings hurt but I knew it had to be done.
It's almost as if I press reset. I still have other debts but now I can strategically focus on paying those off by summer's end. I can build up my emergency fund again and comfortably focus on a few other goals.
Thanks and cheers, all.
TLDR:
Took a lump-some out of the savings I was hoarding and paid off my credit card debt. It hurt but it's worth it.
