Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, so I apologize in advance if it's not. Anyways, I had service from Comcast for internet for a few years while I lived with some friends. We went our separate ways as life moved on. We cancelled everything and returned all equipment to Comcast. On that day we asked if there was any outstanding bills needing to be paid. They said no and that our account balance was zero so we were good and clear according to the Comcast system.

Everything is wonderful, life had moved on.. until 4 months later I checked my credit report to find a 70 point drop in my credit because of an outstanding bill for 76 dollars that has been sent to collections without any attempt to contact me on Comcast's part, the company that told us we were free and clear.

After some short research on the internet I found this is actually quite common. My question is, what do I do from here? Is there any way to quickly recover the credit points I lost? How is this practice (on Comcast's part) not entirely illegal?

And I suppose a follow up question for business lawyers would be, how can one person go about trying to change this business model of corruption that seems to run rampant in Comcast? Can I, as a resident of Missouri, try to create a piece of legislation that would make this practice on Comcast's part (and in turn all communications companies) illegal?

Thanks for any help that can be provided, and sorry if he format sucks, I'm on a phone at work currently.

Hope everyone has a great day!
