They've done this to me and several other customers. If you're still waiting on this year's tax returns, don't be surprised if you get an email from this company asking for a photo copy of your ID and your social security number.

They claim suspicious account activity was found, but they won't tell you why. They don't answer any questions, actually, and it takes them several days to tell you they don't have an answer. There are also reports of them verbally abusing and harassing customers on the phone. They behave like criminals.

After you send the information, it might take a week for them to verify. Often they'll ask you to send it again. This takes another week. Then you have to take for them to process and send your refund. They're probably accruing interest on the money this entire time.

Many believe this to be an enormous scam. Remember, the tax companies such as TurboTax and H&R Block have allegedly spent a lot of money lobbying to make sure the tax process is too complicated to go through without their products. They have a bad reputation for being crooked, corrupt enterprises. It's not much of a stretch to say that the Santa Barbara Bank issue is a scam as well.
