Good Afternoon everyone, I'm a long time lurker to this sub and am hoping for some sage wisdom before setting myself into a new lifestyle. I've spent four years in the US military and am looking forward to a further two years. I've reached a point where my goals and responsibilities have changes.

Currently Without going too much into it I am saving $1,100 a month. That's after paying for insurance, estimated car maintenance, gas, rent, 45$ entertainment budget, spousal support, health care, car payment, triple down paying credit card, $200 in food, internet costs. August will see me getting a pay raise of $500 a month and my savings should increase to $1600.

If I haven't left major costs out of my budget, then I should have $41K saved before I get out with no debt... which feels like too much. What am I missing? Your help here will be appreciated.

GOALS I'm moving back home for college. I'll be young enough to go back and pursue my passion. Rent, books, insurance, food, and gas will leave me spending roughly $740 a month. Assuming I get no scholarships, my college will be paid for because of the government GI bills. I could live for four years on that money and still have another 5 months of budget to cover major incidents. I know what I want to do and earn my degree in college for, and that it should only take 3 years. Again this leaves a question in my mind. What am I missing?

  • Health Insurance Costs - Big one here. I guess I need to start shopping around and include that in my costs.. totally unfamiliar with civilian life doctors and medical care.

What do you fine people think I'm missing? Do I have a lead weight of a plan tying me down from this future? Is my plan a far-off goal that needs a few more years to cement my abilities? Any comments or help would be appreciated.

Sincerely, -AFulminata-
