Why do highschool Econ classes have "stock market trading" games when long term index funds are usually the better option? What combination of games would be better?

So I recently became aware of the power of compounding interest and long term investment. Although I came from a great HS the stock market game was a big focus of our econ class which imo teaches students the wrong lessons or only a partial lesson.

So im curious what everyone thinks would be a better option on how to go about teaching or showing the differences and advantages of both sides.
