I'm going to be receiving approximately $300,000 in a lump sum that is allocated to go to somewhere else in about 3-6 months. I was thinking it would be wise to invest it all in a single ETF to reduce transaction fees, and hopefully have it in some kind of safe investment that will also earn an annual gain of at least 4%. Any loss over those 3-6 months of more than 1% would be pretty tough to handle and gain of at least 1-2% would be ideal.
The reason I was thinking investing in just one ETF is to only pay the $9 transaction fee once to drop it in, and I'll be withdrawing it in around 6 chunks of $50,000. I realize $9 transaction fees aren't that much compared to the amount I'm investing, but keeping total potential costs down is my primary goal.
I was looking at VTI because that seems to be one of the safer index funds while still bringing in a pretty decent gain.
Also, please keep in mind I don't have a lot of experience with investing and certainly not with this large of an amount of money, so I'm kind of nervous. Any help/thoughts would be appreciated.
