A few weeks back while sitting in my dining room I noticed that the porch light was flickering - something I'd never seen before. Some time later, I don't remember if it was the same night or the days following, the light bulb went out and stopped working. I bought a new bulb which is supposed to be yellow but it glows a weird orange/red. I thought maybe we just had a weird dud bulb (and maybe we do). Well around this same time, again not sure if it was before or after the flickering light, I hear a sound coming from near my front door and porch. It is inside for sure and it's impossible to pinpoint. None of the switches are warm and all the lights work as they should. There is an air intake for the HVAC nearby and I conclude that I probably just need to change the filter. Fast forward to tonight....I change the filter and have actually forgotten about the hum/buzz. However as I'm walking by the area I hear it again. I tell my wife to come and listen just to be sure I'm not crazy. She hears it too. And she also can't pinpoint where it's coming from. We decide it must be something electric so I decide to turn the breaker off for that set of lights. I turn the breaker off and the buzz stops. I turn it back on and it starts up again. I remove this new ugly red/orange bulb in case it had poisoned my wiring somehow and that does not affect anything. So at this point I've decided it's best to leave that breaker off until something is done to diagnosis and fix this buzz.My initial thought is that I am no electrician and this is getting into dangerous territory. However if there are simple checks I can do to try to DIY this myself, I'm willing to investigate.tl;dr: there is a confirmed electric related buzz coming from my walls. Not sure if I should try to fix/diagnosis the issue myself or call the pros from the start. So, I ask you Reddit DIYers, what is your advice to us in this situation? via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2mcxifp
