I'm a tall mofo (6'5) with the leg length of someone 4 inches shorter (I wear 32 length jeans, maybe 34) than me and the wingspan (82/83") of someone 6 inches taller than me - meaning elbows and arms out I've can't remember ever having a comfortable or ergonomic desk (6'3 by 14, which is half my life) and I'm starting my own business (not the point of this thread) and want a desk that is actually got dang comfortable to work at and where I'm not cricking my neck or bumping my knees or rubbing my thighs against course wood.Current standing Desks available on market are about 4 inches too short for me, minimum and would require me to mod significantly anyway. And at the top of their range start to get wobbly until you reach really expensive models.I'm quite proficient in CAD (I'm an engineer and have been using it 40ish hours a week for the last 5 years) so i can draft up relatively detailed designs. And my father has a very nice and expensive woodworking shop in his garage and has modest experience wood working.I have a general idea of shape and function. I want it to be a 2 position only desk. I'm considering cast iron pipe inside of a wood outer layer in base position and in the raised position the pipe is exposed above the wood (dark wood stain black cast iron and black padded rubber type finish on top of desk for comfort and built in mouse functionality). Any tips or suggestions or resources for an intermediate level dealio?I want it to be stable at my very tall height the standing height is 50", detachable monitor base that raises part of it to a height of 62" with a 6x4 foot base desk width. I am also considering adding the ability to tilt the table top, drafting style with a few angle joints. Would four legs be better? 2 with a long and wide footing? What is the most stable connection for moving the two pieces of the desk on the legs? I intend to document it , success or failure to post here.Sorry for the sporadic post trying to get my thoughts down before I go to work. I'll be working on the component drafting this weekend.Tia y'all via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2nqQYMU
