EDIT: Title says "employee". I mean boss! Seems i cannot edit it..
Dear PF,
I'll try to keep this as short as possible. Bare with me because English is not my native language. (Dutch guy here).
I work as a full-stack developer at my current job. Have done so for the past 4 years to full satisfaction of both myself and my boss. Lately i've got the feeling my personal growth has been put to a halt. My specialty is front-end development and this is where my passion lies. Currently this is the smallest part of my total "job package".
I've had multiple meetings and a job interview yesterday at a company that i REALLY like. I'll be getting an increased salary and i'll work as a front-end developer (not full stack anymore) which is exactly what i want.
Yesterday i gave my current boss my leave notice. He told me to not sign anything at the other company for another day so he could make up a counter offer which he just gave me.
Basically i'll be getting paid the same + a bit extra the other company offered me and he'll promote me to senior front-end developer (always good on the resumé right?..) . I told him i'm not all in it for the money, but after that he dropped a big a-bomb on me. If i keep working for him for another 2 years, he'll make me a business partner, which means i'll get a share of company profit (holy sheit right?). I told him i'd like the weekend to think it over. My current boss and i are on super good terms, so i'm sure he'll follow through with it may the time come.
The company i have a job offer at wants to up their current offer (probably salary) and they have invited me for another meeting in approx. 2 hours which i will be hearing out.
If i listen to my gut feeling i want to take the other job. I do get the feeling it's more up my alley. On the other hand.. the offer i'm getting at my old job may skyrocket my career if i invest the time.
Are there any people with a similar experience? What have you done and what would you recommend me? I'm super happy to know people will go this far to keep/hire me, but it also frightens me a bit as this is the first time i've ever had something this huge.
Thanks for your time.
