Hello. Before I start asking for the advice and guidance of those far more experienced than I, I will state that I am not exactly skilled when it comes to DIY. I haven’t done a great deal. This is the biggest thing I have done myself. Admittedly, not exactly complex in the grand scheme of things but you’ve got to start somewhere.I have recently laid some new laminate flooring throughout the ground floor of our home. Not only for aesthetic reasons, but the old flooring looked like it was thrown down by the previous owners. Quite a few gaps dotted around. To get a cleaner finish I started by removing all the skirting boards. The first of the old flooring I pulled up was a nightmare to do and ended up damaging the floor under them. Not sure what it had been stuck down with, but it was well and truly stuck. Removing all the old flooring was going to be a much bigger job that I was will to do. I opted to just put the new laminate on top (with underlay in between).I reused all the original (naff looking) skirting and have fixed architrave on top to give it a better finish. For 99% of the job, this was no problem at all and now just needs to be painted. However, I have one section I just don’t know how to finish due to the differing floor levels between the kitchen (tiled floor) and dining room (20mm). I have a threshold bar that is perfect for this job, I just don’t know what to do with the piece of skirting that goes between the two open-plan rooms to give it a nice finish.Do I remove the kitchen skirting, add a strip of something 20mm in height, then reuse the original skirting and add the same architrave?Do I try a downward mitre with the skirting and architrave? If so, where? I’m thinking in the dining room before it turns to kitchen. Then cutting a 20mm section out of the bottom left of the old skirting so it matches the rest of the kitchen? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2mrA80Z
