I have two weddings back to back in August. One in Cincinnati and one in Los Angeles. I live in Philadelphia. So I need to go PHL-CVG-PHL one weekend and then PHL-LAX-PHL the next weekend. I do not want to fly straight from CVG-LAX unless I can save a ton of money doing that because I'll have to use way more vacation days than I want to use.

My question is regarding how to find the cheapest flights. I've been tracking the flights I like on Google Flights, and they are each hovering around $250-400. I've seen that Frontier/Spirit have very cheap flights for the next 2 months, so I will plan to check them again when I am closer to my travel dates.

I've heard about using layover cities to get cheaper flights, but can't find any good website that helps you search. Everything I've found you need to give your destination city, and since I don't care the destination city as long as the layover is in my actual destination city, I can't find a good way to search. Is there a website that helps you search for your destination city as the layover without specifying the actual destination?

Any other suggestions on how to fly frugally? I'd like to avoid paying $600-700 for these two flights, on top of all the other expenses of going to (and being in) a wedding.

Also worth mentioning that I barely ever fly so I do not have rewards or airline miles or anything like that.
