I was just fired today from a job I started 2 months ago. In my opinion it was not a fair reason but it happened. I am (was) the sole breadwinner in my house. My husband is a stay-at-home dad. I am 7 months pregnant with baby #2 and will be losing my health insurance through the company at the end of the month. They offered to pay for COBRA insurance for the next two months to help me out in exchange for signing some documents regarding my termination which I haven't done yet. I came home and filed for unemployment, food stamps, and medicaid. I have $7k in savings. We just bought a minivan a month ago, the payments are $160/month. Our rent is pretty cheap at $750/month. My doctor requires a $120/month payment before the baby is born for checkups. Here's the question: I believe I qualify for medicaid for my family now and it should cover all my medical expenses for the birth in about 2 months. This could potentially save me $5k bill I was planning on receiving after insurance. We should also qualify for food stamps which would just leave us with our expenses for rent/utilities, car payment, and cell phone bill ($100/month). Should I start looking for a new job now? Should I take advantage of the time off and get medicaid coverage? I hope this is the right place to ask. Any advice is appreciated.

EDIT: Thanks for all the responses so far. I know my husband can look for a job and that is an option as many of you have said. This just happened today so we're both in a little bit of shock and panic. If anyone knows about Medicaid benefits that's what my biggest question/concern is right now for the next two months. Thanks again.
