I hope this counts as a "frugal" post because it concerns spending time and spending too much of it rather than money but it is in order to earn money. So hopefully it counts on both fronts because I would like any feedback or ideas.

Background: I am a masters-level social worker and I have several people that I help support. I need to earn at least $50,000 a year or thereabouts in order to make this work. In searching for positions online is difficult for me to:

  • Narrow searches by salary (many are not listed or are listed incorrectly)

  • Filter out all the jobs for social media, that mention social skills, or otherwise have the word "work" in the listing. The "exact phrase" tool stops working once you save a search.

  • Find listings that are easily navigated and applied.

  • Find "saved search" features that adequately address the three things mentioned. I have tried to save searches on both indeed.com and careerbuilder.com but once it is saved the things I am trying to filter out find their way back in. It is actually inundating to get 600 listings a week when the vast majority just include the word "social" or "work."

Between these obstacles I estimate that I am wasting hours every weekend when I search and apply. It is really that difficult and I find that spending this much time to search through listings encumbers the results.

For the record, I have tried other terms such as counselor, advocate, case manager and therapist but those are not strictly social work and the majority are for nurses or psychologists.

Any ideas?
