Hey all I'm hoping to get some help in this subreddit. If you think I should post else where, could you point me in the right direction? So I currently have DHMO for dental insurance. I was in need of two root canals and two crowns. The dental office was immediately recommending the most expensive crown, porcelain/ceramic substrate which is $810 each. They asked me to initial and sign a plan declining the less expensive porcelain fused to base metal which they originally noted was $360. After a little research online, I read that the porcelain/ceramic crown is more of a cosmetic option since it looks like a real tooth. The porcelain fused to base metal is good but overtime if my gums recede, you'll be able to see the grey line of the metal along my gum. These are towards the back so I really don't care about the discoloration. So I went in today asking for a change to the porcelain fused to metal. They guy up front said it was too late since they sent my impressions to the lab, which I informed him they hadn't done the impressions yet. Then he said, ok but are you sure you want to do that? I was pretty confident in my decision. Then when I was with the dentist, he was telling me that the color won't match my teeth and that they wouldn't last as long. He brought it up again after he did my impressions and said maybe the guy in the front can wok something out with me. When I went up front, the guy said I can pay $580 today and give $100 payments a month for the next 6 months. He said that the office NEVER does a payment plan like that for anyone but that the dentist didn't want to "put metal in my mouth". I was feeling so pressured. The he said he would give me $100 off...wtf? Are they just trying to take my money?? Or are they really looking out for my teeth? I told him I'd call him on the morning with my decision. Anyone have advice for me?
