I'm 16, and have just started an apprenticeship. I earn £109 per week. My parents charge me 1/3 of it (after a debate which we dragged my grandma into-my Mom wanted me to pay half originally) which I'm not overly bothered about (they pay for my gym membership, phone contract). The problem I do have, though, is that they want me to buy my own food, toiletries AND be able to pay for driving lessons, future car insurance and a new car....on £73 a month.
They buy me breakfasts, which isn't an issue, but I have to buy my own lunches, drinks, snacks, etc. This takes me back about £25/30 a week. So, I have £43 left. About £15 of this goes on shampoo, conditioner and body wash every 2 weeks (so about £7.50p/w) . £10 goes on toothpaste, mouthwash and dental floss so about £5p/w (because ya girl needs them pearly whites) which leaves me with just over £30...
Now, with this I cannot do a lot. But, what my mom wants is for me to be able to pay for driving lessons, car insurance and a car as soon as a turn 17 as well as give her "a little bit extra" for raising me. I will be on £109p/w (approx) until I am 18. At which point, I want to move out, and look for job opportunities elsewhere. This stirs up an argument, as she says "you won't have enough to buy yourself anything nice, you may as well live here" but the situation will remain the same, just with less places to work.
I'm hoping this doesn't come across as sounding spoiled, but I'm trying to word it as best as I can. I earn £3.40p/h, and I'm just struggling to see how I can ration all my wages out, spare money or not. I'd love to hear other people's opinions and any advice...thanks!
