Hi PF, I'm on mobile in a rush so I apologize for spelling and format errors.
My girlfriend received a medical bill for ~$4k and submitted it to her insurance company. They deemed the bill above what was reasonable for that type of bill in our area. After some back and forth they only agreed to pay ~$250 of the bill, and drafted her an email to send to the medical group stating that by accepting the payment, she was no longer liable for the remainder of the bill. They continued to send her bills and she was told to ignore them by the insurance company. We have this all well documented. Now she's being sent to collections and I'm concerned this will tank our credit score. What can we do to prevent the hit to our credit since we were just doing what we were told by the insurance company? I'm in Illinois if that info helps. I'll do my best to come back and add details after work, but I'm a bit rushed now.
