Hey guys I got news my dad died this morning. Long story short my mom and dad have been divorced for the last decade, however I've been living with my mom in an apartment while my sister lived with my dad. My dad took ownership of the house after the divorce.
My sister is looking into the whole funeral thing, I'm tasked with finding out what we do with the house. For starters, my mom, sister, and I are broke. I know my dad probably had a couple thousand saved up but we sure as hell can't afford the mortgage. There are 1 or 2 renters in the house right now. Where do I even start?
He also hasn't done his taxes yet and was working as an independent contractor. I don't know anything about his finances other than what's mentioned.
We are located in Chicago. My sister and I are in our early 20s. My dad was 55.
