If you're looking at a company that is highly dependent on economic conditions and has dropped in value by 30% or more in all the previous downturns, and you expect it to continue to drop by 30% in all future downturns, does it make sense to try to hold that forever? It seems like selling at the top is extra important for cyclical stocks. This is compared to the overall market which might drop by only 10% or something for smaller downturns.
