Sure, there is a sob story to go along with this question but I will just get to the point.

There is a judgement against me in New Jersey from five years ago for just under $5,000. I have not had a bank account for many years because they would levy it and overdraft me. I DO have the money now and would like to get this taken care of so I can bank like a normal person.

Is there any way I can take care of this without having to pay the full $5,000? It is a huge amount to me and while I have it it will be a huge blow to my savings.

A couple of things worth mentioning:

  • It is already clear that I am financially retarded so we can skip the part where you berate me.
  • Having a bank account is mandatory at this point I believe.
  • I have recently taken on a large responsibility which is why I am trying to clean up my act so unless it is for some reason highly advisable that I ignore it you can consider that a non-option.
  • If my best option is to just pay the full amount as soon as possible then just say so.
  • If there is anything I need to be aware of when paying the full amount (that a financially retarded person wouldn't realize) then please point it out.
