My mum got diagnosed in 2006 with a rare kind of brain cancer, had surgery and has undergone multiple rounds of radiation and chemotherapy. Because of the after-effects of the treatment she is slowly declining mentally, and is unable to learn any sort of complex new skills, or commit to physically going into work because sometimes her legs go all jello-y and it takes her days to get her energy back up.
She had an administrative background, so we were looking at her doing something like a virtual assistant (she went to the career centre and got a list of things that may be possible.) but are unsure if it's something she would really be up to....and how stressful the demands would be and are confused about how to get started.
She is on disability, but it doesn't even cover her rent, let alone any other expenses, she lives in a one bedroom apartment, and I think at this point it would be a huge hit to her self esteem to suggest downsizing. Am kind of limited by her emotional readiness to accept things too.
She volunteers a few hours a week doing client care at a local charity organization ( kind of like informal counselling) and it brings a lot of life to her... somehow this is okay for her to get to and from to ( I think because there is no pressure because it's volunteer) ...but she has on occasion had to cancel appointments because of a dizzy spell or something similiar.
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
TL:DR mum is sick and needs someway to support herself from home.
