Is the best strategy to hold an ETF for the longest amount of time possible?

I'm just wondering if I held an ETF for 20 years or so, would it be wise to save it for another 20 years, or could I sell it at a profit and get another ETF for 20 more years? Do I get more compound interest for holding the same ETF for longer?
