I'm currently working for a company involved in digital commerce and I have read access to the production database that contains all of the data for subscriptions and users of the company's products. I could ostensibly use this knowledge to predict sales and quality of earnings better than what outsiders are told from financial statements and annual reports. If I trade my company's stock based on this information, could I get investigated for insider trading? I know executives have to do special filings with the SEC when trading stocks, but I'm just a lowly grunt doing the dirty work.
