I recently moved into my first solo apartment in May. I learned the hard way the difference between being the splitting utilities and being 100% responsible lol. So, I started budgeting and being fiscally responsible aka frugal. My family was on board...until last month.
One of my tactics this Winter is not turning on the heat. My family members shamed me into turning on my heat one night because it was 20 degrees outside.
According to them, the following could've happened to a healthy, 25 year old: -die in my sleep -develop arthritis from the cold -hyperthermia -pipes freeze over
Here are the real facts of my situation: -I'm a Yankee living in the south. My winter tolerance is pretty high -I live in a 525sq ft flat apartment by myself -Gas heating -I work in the office 40+ hrs/week -I prefer a cool environment, so I can sleep in a cocoon of sheets -I use a little space heater when it's really cold
Yeah, it's mildly inconvenient...but I've my gas bill is always $30, and my electricity only increased by $10.
