The usual advise is to make the kind of investments that won't keep you up at night when the market tanks, but I wonder how many people really ride it out. There must have been a lot of people who saw the market plunging and decided to sell, but I don't know anyone who will admit to it.
I did pretty good in the housing bubble crash, not so much in the dot com bust. In neither one was I tempted to sell to limit losses, though.
