So, I signed up for Credit Karma last February after making a commitment to get my financial house in order. My scores were ~450 and ~515. Today, after almost a full year of work and dedication, they're ~695!
Some background. I'm in my 20s and made a couple of bad choices following a long bout with depression. It left me with a little bit of debt and no job. I managed to get a job, move out on my own, save up a (small) emergency fund and pay off all of my debt (about $5k), as well as doing right with my new credit card for several months.
The part that really made this hard, was that I made less than 23k last year. I work at Walmart. But I buckled down, because it was important for me to build a financial future.
In addition to all of the above, I started contributing to a 401k (6%, all matched) and taking part of a stock purchase plan with Walmart (they match 15% of what I contribute). Its not enough to retire on time or anything, but is a real start. I feel so much better about my financial future.
I wanted to thank all of the amazing people on this sub. The ones who link sources, give advice, and everything else. You guys have been amazing and a big part of this positive change in my life! Thank you so much!
