Hello PF,

I have been answering a lot of questions lately by sorting via "new", and I have noticed several mistakes that people make which can cause their post to receive little or no attention. To help us better help you, please take a moment to review this chart to learn what mistakes to avoid so that you will attract the answers that you want.

Mistake Solution
Creating a massive wall of text, with no clear question. The back story is important, but limit it to what we need to know. Be consice with your post, and have questions in mind that you want answered. Consider using a numbered list of direct questions at the top or bottom or your post that people can respond to directly.
Asking numbers questions without giving a full financial context. Post a complete budget, including all income and all expenses. Tell us what we need to know so that we aren't fishing for information. If you do not have a complete budget, that is part of your problem. Take the time to make one.
Including too much personal information. The purpose of this forum is to answer finance questions. While you are probably a unique and nice person, we do not need to hear about your political opinion or your non-finance life issues.
Asking questions that are very common. Please review the sidebar on the right side of the screen. The most common question that I see is "I have x$ in the bank, what now?". These sorts of questions are easily answered with a little bit of reading!
Asking about relationship issues. I am personally not opposed to these types of questions, but that is not within the scope of this sub. Leave out information that doesn't directly or indirectly late to your personal finance question.
Asking mostly legal advice. Head over to /r/legaladvice for better, more precise answers. If you have any doubts about whether you need a lawyer, you probably need one.
Not including your location. This doesn't apply to every post. If you think it does, please include what state or country that you live in. There is a list of non-US/Canada subs on the toolbar on the right which may better be able to answer your questions.

Keep mindful of these things when posting. Thanks.
