TL;DR: Got 5 Blue Apron boxes for $140 instead of $300 by using coupon codes and Groupon.
Lately, I've been having trouble with cooking and eating healthily and regularly. In an effort to find a solution, I decided to look into Blue Apron. For those unfamiliar with it, Blue Apron is a food delivery service. For a weekly fee of $60, you get a box with ingredients and recipes for 3 two-serving meals. About $10 per serving. For a single person like me, that's 6 meals to last through the week. Now some of you are perfectly content with eating lentils ad infinitum for $0.30 a meal. I applaud you guys. I however wanted variety, substance, and cooking practice. This is also partially eliminates dreaded trips to costco and trying to figure out what to make. Of course, being the cheap bastard that I am, I didn't want to pay full price. Through various hoop jumping and discount codes, I got 30 servings (5 weeks) for $140, or $4.66/meal. Not bad. No food goes to waste, no shopping trips, variety of meals.
How I Did It:
Groupon is offering $60 box for $40. On top of that, right now, they offering an additional 20% ($7.80) off (WINTER20), or $10 off (WELCOME) if it's your first order. The coupon code only applies to one item and you're limited to 2. I ordered two boxes through two separate transactions allowing me to use the coupon on both. Then I created another account using my work email and a different credit card. I again bought two through separate transactions, using the 20% off and the $10 off. I got the Groupon discount of 35% off, plus the promo of an additional 20% off. A $240 order ended up costing me $120.
Finally, I went to Blue Apron's website where they had a $40 off offer for new users. I ordered a 5th box for $20. In total I got 5 boxes valued at $300 for about $140.
