I worked as a 1099 contractor in 2023. Made about $30,000
My SO worked for only a few months during the last part of the year. She opened up her w2 and it said her gross income for 2023 was $4400 so I claimed her as a dependent. She was doing her taxes tonight and discovered she had gotten another w2… Apparently she worked less than a week into 2023 and we forgot that thinking the job had ended in 2022… (We had a lot of crazy things happening around that time…)
She made just barely $600 with that employer in 2023 but that puts her over the $4700 dependent limit for 2023 (which ironically was raised to $5,050 for 2024…)
I submitted my taxes via TurboTax earlier today. I paid what I owed in full (I am very particular about doing things by the book even though I didn’t make much). I am not sure what to do now… We are not even sure how she should file her taxes now and she only has till the 15th…
I just started a new job finally making a decent living that I desperately need for my family and am in the middle of some very intense training and this just smacked me in the face… I should be studying right now and I’m sitting here very worried, not sure what to do now… I don’t want us to get into any trouble.
Thanks for any help, everyone. Much appreciated.
