Okay, so I'm 21 and I've been working ever since I turned 18 before my senior year of high-school, working on my credit and my future. Since before high-school, my dad has always been reckless with money. In the middle of high-school he went bankrupt and we lost our old house. Since then we got a new house which him and my mom split the bills on probably 60/40 split of all bills, more to his end. In 2021 I got a used car for college because my first one was far beyond repair. He used his little bit of credit (Less then 600) and I put my smidge in and we got a horrible deal(25% APR). After that He had a heart attack 2 years ago, which lost him his better job and he had to take a lesser job, while I got a better one and have been making all my payments on time(mid 700s credit score).
Cut back to now, Our house is falling down around our ears, grass hasn't been cut since spring, all we have in our pantry is various canned vegetables, Ramen noodles, and junk, in the past 3 months I've probably had 10 home cooked meals(he is constantly getting fast food for all of us), he has a current side-by-side(It's an atv type thing FYI) that he still owes 6300 on, and he wants me to use my credit to get him a new one which I waved off. He eventually wakes me up after work one day and asks if we can go get it today because he found one he likes. I told him no, he has no down payment, the money could be better spent or even saved, to which he stormed off and pulled out of our house at 100mph. My mom then called and said you have to get it or he's kicking both of us out. I thought on it for a day and avoided him at all costs. They then call me up and my dad gives me a lecture about how I'm not a team a player and he gives me a house to live in, this and that. (I live there for free but pay my own bills and even one of theirs and all the streaming services he loves so much)
Now don't get me wrong, I'm grateful incredibly grateful even, but its not worth jeopardizing my financial future.
So cornered I said alright fine let's go, begrudgingly. We went and the item was priced at 10,599, we go through all the credit stuff and the employee comes back and says "yeah the bank needs a down payment" and shows us the credit sheet. With a 2200 down payment(which he doesn't have, he had to turn in change for gas money today.) it was 11599 with a 18.4 APR and now has 15,000 dollars in interest. He said no and left. I breathed a sigh of relief, I have won. Nope, comes to me the next day and says "hey look at this one I found, it's 15,000 dollars you gotta do the online application". I just said yeah right and left. haven't been back home. What should I do, WHAT CAN I DO? please shoot some advice my way, I dont want me and my mother to end up homeless, I have a dog and cat to accommodate for.
