I've been googling to no end, and trying to rack my brain about what to do. It occured to me that I may have a good chance getting help in this subreddit. Anyways, my partner of 3 years and I split up a few months ago. About 1-2 years ago, in his name, we took out a loan for 10k. We made payments consistently until about 3 months ago. It was through Upstart. He and I both went our separate ways, and it makes me sick to think that he has to face this debt. I feel responsible, so I want to help him pay it. However, it's taking both of us some time to recover and start over, so money isn't exactly pouring in, especially that my bills have all doubled now. So have his.

Does anyone have experience with Upstart? It's been about 3 months now since we've made a payment, and it's probably gone into default. I wonder which collection agency they use. Since the collection agency buys the debt for pennies, I wonder if they would allow a payment plan, but obviously nowhere near 10k. We were paying about $300 a month, and there's no way we can continue to do that.

Do I try contacting the collection ageny and see what I can work out? Or do I try to find a company that will essentially buy the debt again, but for a micro amount, and give me a lower monthly payment. I don't know if that kind of company exists.

Any advice would be so extremely helpful and I appreciate your help.
