Recently, my husband suggested we should get our salaries coming directly into our joint account, as opposed to the personal individual accounts after which we take our pocket money and transfer the rest into our joint accounts. We had this discussion earlier and I had told him I was more comfortable getting my salary into my personal account (but I have diligently been transferring 80% of it into our joint account since 4 years of our marriage) but now he’s asking again, as he said many of our friends do the same.

For some background, he doesn’t have a good credit history and is not very good at financial planning, it makes me more comfortable to have control over my money, though we are happy as a couple.

My question is, what’s your opinion? Any advice on how you manage your finances with your spouse? We also have a 18 month old toddler.

TL;DR: my husband wants our salaries to come straight into our joint account whereas I’m more comfortable to have it coming into my personal salary account. Should I do what he says?
